A practice session for my set at Foolish2, a drum & bass party in Cleveland on April 1, 2023, thrown by the Ohio Rave Alliance and Anita Bass. My long-time friend Jay Johnson booked me for the night — my first party in over five years, and honestly the spark that got the juices flowing again. If you look at the gap between the classic mixes and the recent ones on the mixes page, this is the booking that closed it: it got me back into DJing after more than 15 years away — new equipment, new mixes, the whole urge to create again.
Jay booked me to play breaks, but I ended up going almost entirely drum & bass — a span of late-2000s / 2010s rollers (all but one track). Listening back, most of these tunes lean on a breakbeat-style drum sound rather than the fast jungle feel, which is exactly why they fit together the way they do.
This was also my first recording on the new gear, so it doubled as a learning exercise while I got ready for the night. It’s the last practice session I did before the show — not the live recording, but the set on the night was exactly the same.
